Snacks are one of the most important items to pack when you are planning to go out with a toddler. If it’s a short trip to the park you can pack almost anything but if it’s a long haul flight or road trip, You have to think about things that won’t go bad at room temperature for hours.
When packing snacks for toddlers, think about
- Food that won’t pose a risk of choking. For example, whole grapes are an unsafe choice
- Cutting fruits and vegetables reduces their shelf life and you can’t carry a knife on the plane. However, you can always carry some chopped fruits and consume them within two hours.
- Too much sugar makes kids overly excited and cranky
- Too much salt can cause stomach discomfort
- Perishable items like milk cheese will need extra care

Other useful tips
- if you want to save on squabbles, pack a separate bag for each child.
- Kids make a mess. Don’t forget to take a towel and a few extra nappy disposal bags to catch the mess.
- If flying, consider liquid rules – the apple sauce pouch will be considered liquid and gel.
- Stick with a familiar item that your picky eater likes, travel is not the time to introduce new food and test their patience.
- Pack extra for delays .
